BMP WEST AFRICA (BMP WA)

Circular Ref: O(20)28

BMP WEST AFRICA (BMP WA)

Attached is a newly issued (BMP WA)- Best Management Practices to Deter Piracy and Enhance Maritime Security off the Coast of West Africa including the Gulf of Guinea which provides up to date guidance and is free to download and circulate to ships and all other appropriate stakeholders.

The BMP WA has been developed by the Round Table of Industry Associations and OCIMF, and is supported by a large number of industry, military and law enforcement organisations. It has been produced to help ships and seafarers avoid becoming the victims of piracy in the region, and helps ships plan their voyages to detect, avoid, deter, delay and report pirate attacks. Experience has shown that application of the measures described in the document makes a significant difference to the safety of seafarers.

BMP WA is available online at the following websites:

A limited number of hard copies of the document will be produced in due course.

Members are invited to note the information provided and circulate the document as appropriate to ensure as wide a distribution of the guidance as possible. Any questions should be addressed to John Stawpert, Manager (Environment and Trade) at the ICS. Email address-  (john.stawpert@ics-shipping.org).
