MIS-DECLARED/NON-DECLARED DANGEROUS GOODS: INDUSTRY INITIATIVE FOCUSING ON PARTICULAR COUNTRIES EXPORTING DANGEROUS GOODS OF CONCERN

Circular Ref: O(20)98

The ICS has been involved over the past year in various initiatives aimed at tackling the problem of container and containership fires caused, or deemed to be caused, by mis-declared/non-declared dangerous goods, through prioritising prevention measures that address the roots of the problem. While industry as well as regulatory initiatives have been taken or are in progress, including improvements to the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code, mis-declaration/non-declaration of dangerous goods continues to be a problem.

The ICS have identified a particular problem regarding shipments of charcoal from indonesia and invites Owners and Shipmanagers who have experienced such shipments to fill in the attached survey form and submit this to ( george.charalampidis@ics-shipping.org ) by 11 December 2020.

Attached is a circular from the ICS explaining the initiative and the survey form to submit to the ICS.
