CALL TO ACTION FOR #SHOUTOUTFORSEAFARERS CAMPAIGN ON 25 JUNE
Circular Ref: O(21)28
Issue Date: 24 May 2021
Members may recall that in the wake of the crew change crisis last year, the ICS led the “Sound Horns" campaign to bring to fore the plight of the seafarers, our brave women and men at sea, who were effectively stranded without being able to join or disembark their vessels. While the situation has since improved and many countries across the world have rightly designated seafarers as essential/key workers, the crisis is still ongoing.
This year too, the ICS has called for industry stakeholders to join a similar campaign, wherein, when safely practicable (with the permission of the port authorities), ships that are in port, should sound their horns at 1200hrs (local time) on 25 June in honour of the International Maritime Organization’s international ‘Day of the Seafarer’ to remind the world of the urgent need to vaccinate all seafarers.
Members are invited to refer to:
- Press Release by the ICS on the subject (attached at Annex A)
- Social Media posters that members may include in their social media posts (attached at Annex B and Annex C)
- Campaign guide (attached at Annex D). Members are invited to run their social media campaigns, including the sharing of seafarer videos as per the guidance provided herein.
