We heard with deep sadness the news of Dr. Cheng’s passing on 26th October 2021.
Dr. Cheng was a close friend and partner to many Association members. He made an instrumental contribution to Hong Kong shipping industry over the past six decades. His company, Peter Cheng Naval Architects & Marine Consultant Ltd, was an invaluable resource for Hong Kong ship owners, many of whom benefited greatly from Dr. Cheng’s services and support in building new ships in different parts of Asia.
Dr. Cheng was a major contributor to China’s shipbuilding industry from the 1970s onwards. He was involved in many design and consulting projects, laying the foundation for our country's world-renowned reputation for building high-quality ships. In the late 2000s, Dr. Cheng donated his lifetime works in ship design and building standards to Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s School of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Civil Engineering, enshrining his commitment and dedication to China's shipbuilding industry.
Dr. Cheng was also a member of the Association Executive Committee (2001 – 2009) and a member of its Technical Sub-Committee (1987 – 2012), offering valuable advice and steer to the work of the Association. Many of our members and secretariat colleagues benefitted greatly from his wisdom and expertise.
Our deepest sympathy goes to the family of Dr. Cheng, whose valued contribution and friendship will be remembered by all of us!
