Circular Ref: A(23)89

We are pleased to inform you that the HKSOA delegation recently attended the 32nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Asian Shipowners Association (ASA) in Shanghai on May 16th. The AGM was accompanied by 5 Standing Committee meetings, where important discussions were held regarding various matters affecting the global shipping industry.

During the event, Mr. Richard Hext, a representative from HKSOA, chaired the Ship Insurance and Liability (SILC) Committee meeting, highlighting the Association's active involvement in addressing key issues related to ship insurance and liability. We thank Mr. Hext for his valuable contribution to this committee.

We are proud to announce that Mr. Wellington Koo, JP, the Chairman of HKSOA, has been elected as the President of the ASA for the term of 2023-24. We extend our congratulations to Mr. Koo on this well-deserved honour.

Furthermore, we are excited to share that HKSOA will serve as the Chairman for the ASA in the upcoming year and will have the privilege of hosting the next AGM in Hong Kong in May 2024. This presents an excellent opportunity for our Association to showcase Hong Kong's maritime capabilities and contribute to the discussions on shaping the shipping industry's future.

During the AGM, the ASA members engaged in discussions on several pertinent matters that impact the global shipping industry. These topics included the unfair treatment of seafarers, tariff issues concerning the Suez and Panama Canal, the High Seas Treaty, and the Hong Kong Convention. The ASA's commitment to addressing these crucial issues demonstrates its dedication to promoting seafarers' welfare and advocating for fair and efficient trade practices.

To learn more about the discussions and outcomes of the ASA AGM, we encourage you to refer to the attached ASA Press release.

We thank all the members of HKSOA for their continued support and participation.
