RISK INTELLIGENCE MONTHLY REPORT AUGUST 2023 AND NORTHERN BLACK SEA REPORT 10 AUGUST

Circular Ref: A(23)143

Please find attached at, Annex A, the Risk Intelligence Monthly Report for August 2023, and the Northern Black Sea Report of 10 August provided at Annex B. This month’s report focuses on Southeast Asia, where Boardings in the Straits of Malacca and Singapore have become an increasing concern for the shipping industry in recent years. While violent attacks are rare, the situation should be closely monitored due to the potential for more serious incidents. Other parts of Southeast Asia are less affected by boardings of merchant ships yet various types of maritime threats are prevalent across the region. The report also covers incidents that took place between July 1-31 in West Africa, the Western Indian Ocean, and Southeast Asia. The Northern Black Sea Report puts the week's main incidents into a broader context to highlight current threat levels and potential changes for maritime operations. The report also contains a port status overview and forecast that cover the main concerns going forward, as well as a map over the Maritime Humanitarian Corridor.

In accordance with the scope of the agreement between ICS and Risk Intelligence, members are requested not to circulate the report further in its entirety.
