US DEVELOPMENTS – DECEMBER 2024
Please find attached at Annex A, the monthly report prepared by the Chamber of Shipping of America (CSA) for December 2024.
The report at Annex A:
1. Identifies that the SHIPS for America Act aims to revitalise U.S. shipbuilding and shipping. It establishes a Maritime Security Advisor, a Trust Fund and sets a goal to expand the U.S. flag fleet by 250 ships in 10 years. The bill includes tax incentives, streamlined regulations and mandates U.S. flag vessels for certain cargo. It also promotes maritime innovation, mariner recruitment, and simplifies credentialing;
2. And reports that the White House Sustainable Freight Workshop brought stakeholders together to advance a zero-emissions freight strategy for maritime, rail and trucking. Key actions included launching the Sustainable Freight Partners Group and unveiling a $12.8 billion Zero Emissions Freight Map. Emphasising public-private collaboration, 65% of investments came from non-federal sources, highlighting momentum in decarbonising the sector.
