What is the webinar about?
What are the upcoming important changes to ballast water regulations that industry should be aware of in order to adapt and be best prepared?
It has been 10 years since ballast water management systems (BWMS) were first installed on ships and several shipping companies are still struggling with the difficult issue of challenging water quality because of which BWMS become temporarily inoperable and have to be bypassed. With BWMS bypassed regularly, how can coastal states protect their coasts from the threat of invasive aquatic species?
Key discussion points include:
· What lies ahead? – What are the upcoming priority amendments to the Ballast Water Management Convention?
· Real-life problems – What challenges do ships face with ballast water management systems?
· The threat of aquatic invasive species – Will ships be able to meet D2 standards of the Ballast Water Management Convention effectively? Based on the data collected on D2 standard compliance during the experience-building phase (EBP), what conclusions can be drawn?
· BWM Implementation Challenges – The EBP of the BWM Convention ends in December 2026? What does this mean in practice?
The panel includes experts representing shipowners, flag States and class – bringing together different perspectives on ballast water management system matters to better understand the challenges of various stakeholders.
