FUELEU - Gasum Pooling
One of our members met Arala Jani, Maritime Commercial Manager, Gasum, (Jani.Arala@gasum.com) during the Hong Kong Maritime week.
Gasum is a 100% Finnish state-owned physical fuel provider that has been in the LNG/bio-LNG market for Maritime and Industrial segment for decades and is well known in North-west Europe for producing bio-LNG and selling LNG and bio-LNG to Maritime and Industrial customers.
FuelEU Maritime forces ships coming to or operating in European ports to reduce the carbon intensity of the fuels used on vessels. Gasum can help shipping companies become regulatory compliant by joining their compliance pool.
Pooling means that companies which cannot themselves burn the needed amounts of biofuels or other low emission fuels in their engines can join a pool and let someone else burn these renewable fuels for them. In other words, Gasum is offering a commercial compliance pool for non-compliant vessels for the FuelEU Maritime regulation. Pooling is intended for companies that want to maintain their operation freedom (instead of calling ports that have biofuels available), experience ease of operations (e.g., no technical issues to worry about with biofuels, etc.) and mitigate the expose to the biofuel markets.
The Gasum pool is unique as they own the value chain of the biomolecules which they make and also add to it by sourcing in the market and claim to be one of the most reliable service providers available.
Attached below is a small presentation that explains how the pooling works in practice. If further information is required please contact Arala Jani, Maritime Commercial Manager, Gasum, (Jani.Arala@gasum.com)
