FuelEU Maritime - Key Dates
Members are reminded of the key dates:-
· FuelEU Maritime (Regulation (EU) 2023/1805) entered into force on 1 January 2025
· By 31 January 2026 (and annually thereafter): Deadline to submit the first annual FuelEU report to the verifier.
· By 31 March 2026: Verifier completes assessment and calculates compliance balance.
· By 30 April 2026:
Companies must notify verifiers whether they intend to adopt a flexibility compliance mechanism, to bank, borrow, or pool GHG intensity surplus or deficit. Any banking or borrowing should be recorded with the verifier’s approval, in the FuelEU database. Pooling must be recorded in the FuelEU database by a verifier.
· By 30 June 2026:
Deadline for paying penalties for any non-compliance with GHG intensity targets.
Deadline to receive the Document of Compliance
· Future Targets:
2030: 6% reduction in GHG intensity from 2020 levels.
2035: 14.5% reduction.
2040: 31% reduction.
2050: 80% reduction.
· Onshore Power Supply (OPS): From 1 January 2030, containerships and passenger ships over 5,000 GT must use OPS ( when available ) while moored at berth.
