IMO SAFETY INCIDENT REPORTS - LESSONS LEARNED FROM MARINE CASUALITIES
The IMO has recently published two major safety incident reports which will be of interest to all Seafarers, Feet and Shipmanagers, HSE and others.
The first report is from the IMO Safety Working Group LESSONS LEARNED FROM MARINE CASUALITIES and the other report,
LESSONS LEARNED AND SAFETY ISSUES IDENTIFIED FROM THE ANALYSIS OF MARINE SAFETY INVESTIGATION REPORTS, is from Canada.
Both reports provide a wealth of safety knowledge and should be widely disseminated.
The Canadian report contains three annexes providing detail about failure of high pressure portable fire extinguishers and also the risks of wearing inflatable lifejackets in small vessels and major fire risks of conveyor belts in Self Unloading Bulkcarriers. These items are being further reviewed by the IMO safety committee with a view to upgrading the regulations to minimize the risks.
Both reports have been provided to the IMO by flag states and are intended to be distributed widely.
