AMENDMENT TO THE LONDON MARKET HULL WAR, PIRACY, TERRORISM AND RELATED PERILS LISTED AREAS AND ADVISORY ON THE SEA OF AZOV
Circular Ref: O(21)24
Issue Date: 29 Apr 2021
Members are invited to note the Advisory Notice issued by the London Market Joint War Committee (JWC) announcing amendments to its Hull War, Piracy, Terrorism and Related Perils Listed Areas, reflecting perceived enhanced risk in the named areas (attached at Annex A).
Also attached at Annex B is the advisory by the JWC on the situation in the Sea of Azov. There has been a recent escalation of tensions in the Ukraine. The Advisory informs that the JWC has met and reviewed the situation and it considers that there is an increased risk of detention in the Black Sea. It describes the situation as “poised but not yet critical” and has not recommended that the area be added to the Listed Areas at this point. It notes, however, that any closure of the Sea of Azov to civilian vessels (whether it be a blanket closure or a prohibition of vessels with certain flags) would significantly increase the risk of prolonged detentions and in that case, the Committee would move to designate the Sea of Azov as a Listed Area.
