COSPONSOR REQUEST FROM EUROPEAN COMMISSION REGARDING NEW OUTPUT ON GUIDELINES ON THE STANDARDISATION OF AIS DATA FOR MSC111

Circular Ref: O(26)10

The ICS is planning to co-sponsor a paper to MSC 111 from IMO members of the EU on the standardisation of AIS data. Members will recall the ongoing issues vessels are facing with AIS transmission, including out-of-date information, inaccurate information, spoofing of devices and fraudulent registry of vessel MMSI numbers. The submission intends to standardise a number of inputs for AIS data that may lead to an increase in safety and security which will be of considerable benefit to all ships.

The proposal would not require any additional costs from shipowners or operators.

The draft MSC submission is attached at Annex A.

Members are requested to review the submission and if any member has any questions or proposed revisions to the paper please forward them before Friday 13th February directly to Gregor Stevens, ICS Nautical Director at – gregor.stevens@ics-shipping.org. plus CC to the undersigned.
