Global Monthly Report for Feb 2026

Circular Ref: A(26)36

Please find attached the monthly Global Security Situation Update for your reference.

February 2026 saw early signs of regional deterioration in the Persian Gulf, including Iranian attempts to intercept the STENA IMPERATIVE, vessel seizures near Farsi Island, and a U.S. shootdown of an Iranian drone. A major escalation between Iran, the U.S., and Israel occurred on 28 February, marked by aerial engagements impacting Jebel Ali and Shuaiba.

The month also saw intensified sanctions enforcement across the Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean, with U.S. and Indian authorities targeting tankers linked to sanctions-evasion networks, raising detention and compliance risks for vessels with opaque or irregular operations. Piracy incidents off Somalia and in the western Arabian Sea persisted at moderate levels, indicating continued capability among regional groups.

Overall, February reflected a worsening and more complex maritime threat environment, culminating in a significant escalation at the month’s end
