Government restructuring
Circular Ref: A(22)09
Issue Date: 13 Jan 2022
Yesterday, the Chief Executive gave more details about the government restructuring plan, including splitting the Transport and Housing Bureau into separate bureaus – the Housing Bureau and the Transport and Logistics Bureau.
We welcome the plan. As you may know, the Association has advocated this for many years. We are of the view that the rationale behind the current institutional arrangement of putting the transport sectors under the same bureau as local housing is unclear. As Hong Kong is facing many challenges in both transport and housing, the Government should set up a dedicated policy bureau with sufficient resources to coordinate transport matters. This would be in the interest of Hong Kong community, as well as the various transport sectors.
We are pleased that the Government has taken the industry advice.
And we would like to take this opportunity to thank Association members who have assisted us in our lobbying throughout the years!
