ICS Leadership Insights - July/August Edition 2024

Circular Ref: A(24)113

Please find attached the July/August Edition of the ICS Leadership Insights.
This month the decision maker piece is, Mr Lam Sai-hung, Secretary for Transport and Logistics, the Government of Hong Kong, who discusses with Leadership Insights about his plans to keep Hong Kong as a leader in aviation, maritime and logistics. Mr Sai-hung highlights that in an ever-competitive world, when it comes to the global industries of aviation and maritime we need to be brave, proactive and forward looking.

In the new analysis section there is a look at the lessons learned from the aviation industry and the familiar challenges in its decarbonisation transition. As another ‘hard to abate’ sector seeking to cut its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050 we take a deep dive into the capital and infrastructure challenges for future fuels.

Another article covers the recently issued report – “Turning hydrogen demand into reality – which sectors come first “- written by Professor Stefan Ulreich, Professor of Energy Economics at Biberach University of Applied Sciences, Germany, identifying hydrogen demand sectors, demand locations and the demand-pull timeline. The report focuses on the potential of clean hydrogen to function as an energy carrier and feedstock to decarbonise multiple sectors, especially hard to abate sectors.
