ICS Leadership Insights March 2023

Circular Ref: A(23)56

In the ICS Leadership Insights March 2023 edition the decision maker piece is from John Michael Radziwill, CEO of shipowner and manager CTM. In this exclusive interview, John talks about the power of collective knowledge and maps a pathway to greener operations for shipping.

The news analysis article this month takes a deep dive into the increasing trend and scope of climate litigation, and the emerging challenges climate law poses for shipowners.

It is hard to believe that it has now been one year since the tragic conflict in Ukraine began, and we still have seafarers stuck in Ukrainian ports. In February the International Chamber of Shipping and 34 co-signatories  wrote a letter to the UN Secretary General, Antonia Guterres calling on the safe release of all seafarers who have found themselves trapped in these ports. The article "Ukraine – 12 months and counting “  gives a good overview of the vital work that has been taking place to help the trapped seafarers

There is another interesting article on the historic breakthrough in finalising the text for the landmark "High Seas Treaty Agreement”   achieved at the United Nations just last week. There is also a look at  disaster management for shipping and ports which compares shipping’s progress on climate change with other modes of freight transport.

And of course, you can catch up with the latest ICS’s  latest "Fund and Rewards IMO Submission  and also articles on the IMO STCW Convention and Africas potential to be come a world leader in green shipping jobs to maritime organisations across the region, and finally  a call to help re-write women into maritime history.
