NEW DRY BULK MANAGEMENT STANDARD (DBMS) AVAILABLE FOR REVIEW
Members are advised that the Dry Bulk Management Standard (DBMS) website has been launched for review and can be accessed via the link below.
Through the website interested parties can register their interest to participate in the review process.
Although the DBMS has not been published in RightShip’s name they have developed the standard with input from several dry bulk operators operating different size bulkcarriers .
The DBMS is aimed at being a dry bulk equivalent to the tanker sector’s TMSA.
DBMS is advertised as a voluntary, goal-based standard, where ship operators will be assessed against the standard and to promote continual improvement.
Once in place dry bulk ship operators can participate in the DBMS to demonstrate to other parties that they are operating to a high standard.
RightShip have advised that DBMS will not be linked to a vessel’s rating.
It is understood that whilst there are no costs associated with participating in the review process, once the DBMS is finalised there will be a cost for shipowners to participate in the scheme. These costs are unknown at present.
The full draft DBMS as a pdf document is 162 pages and 12 Mb in size so has not been attached to this Circular. However, but if any member wishes to receive it and can accept documents as attachments of 12 Mb please advise your contact so we can send it to you.
Also, if any members have strong views about the DBMS the ICS would like to know so they can lobby RightShip about it. The next meeting between the ICS and RightShip is scheduled for June 2020. This is also an opportunity to lobby RightShip about any other issues as well so all comments should be addressed to the undersigned. The comments will be anonymised so will not reflect on any ship or company.
