REQUIREMENTS FOR ONBOARD LIFTING APPLIANCES AND ANCHOR HANDLING WINCHES

The Sub-Committee on Ship Systems and Equipment, at its 7th session (SSE 7), re-established the Correspondence Group on Onboard Lifting Appliances and Anchor Handling Winches (OLAW) under
the coordination of Japan, and instructed it, taking into account comments made and decisions taken in plenary, to (SSE 7/21, paragraph 9.24):
1) Further develop the draft Guidelines for anchor handling winches addressing the outstanding issues, based on annex 3 to document SSE 7/WP.5, with a view to finalization at SSE 8, (March 2022),
taking into account documents SSE 7/9/2 and SSE 7/9/4 and the progress made at SSE 7; and
2) Submit a written report to SSE 8.

3) The Group further developed the draft guidelines for anchor handling winches (AHW), based on annex 3 to document SSE 7/WP.5. In the process of further development of the draft guidelines
based on the proposals made by the members, the Group also reflected the result of the work accomplished for draft SOLAS regulation II-1/3-13 and the draft guidelines for lifting appliances,
which were finalized at SSE 7, as necessary.
4) The draft guidelines for anchor handling winches, prepared by the Group, are set out in the attached Annex. Some of the texts in the draft guidelines were kept within square brackets for further
consideration by the Sub-Committee.
Although not finalized the information contained in the attached Draft Guidelines maybe useful for newbuilding specifications. The final guidelines will be sent out when approved, possibly in May or June 2022.
