SHANGHAI MSA’S CONCENTRATED INSPECTION CAMPAIGN (CIC) ON PROPULSION AND AUXILIARY MACHINERY
Following a serious collision accident that took place in Deep Water Fairway of Changjiangkou (CJK) off Shanghai, China in December 2020, the Shanghai Maritime Administration (MSA) had issued a safety notice (provided at Appendix 1 ) to urge all ships to undertake thorough testing and rectify defects and deficiencies related to onboard propulsion and auxiliary machinery prior to departure from berth or arrival into restricted waters.
Also, with the aim of avoiding similar accidents in the future, Shanghai MSA is carrying out a 3-month long Concentrated Inspection Campaign (CIC) on propulsion and auxiliary machinery. The CIC runs from 15 March 2021 to 15 June 2021. Details on the scope of the CIC, checks that could be carried out as part of the inspections and typical deficiencies can be found in the document provided at Annex B.
