SkillsPlus begins 2021 with a unique Masterclass titled: "Maritime Vendor Contracts Management’'
16th & 23rd January 2021 (a 2-session Masterclass)
3pm-6.30pm HKT on each day
This Masterclass was developed in response to the needs identified by a Singapore-based large ship owning firm of repute. The programme will help those negotiating bunkers, lubes, paints, spares and services contracts.
Learning objective
On successful completion of this Master Class, a participant will be expected to:
Knowledge and understanding
§ take a knowledgeable and diligent approach while negotiating contracts and avoid pitfalls of poorly drafted maritime vendor / procurement & management contracts.
§ have a good grasp of the construction of main vendor contracts and steer clear of avoidable disputes.
§ understand the fundamental principles of alternate dispute resolution
Skills
§ negotiate and execute contracts with a reasonable understanding of key clauses.
§ able to identify some of the problematic clauses.

This Masterclass has been developed to include almost all risk areas to enable the ship management personnel (technical & purchase functions) to achieve the above-mentioned Learning Objective.

§ Introduction to Risk: Market, Execution, Operational and Credit Risk;
§ Understand the concept of identification, quantification, transfer and retention of risk;
§ Understand the risk associated with poorly drafted contracts and the need to be diligent while entering into any contract;
§ Understand the structure of different types of contracts; (spares/lubes/bunkers procurement/ship management contract)
§ Understand the concept of conditions, warranties, express & implied terms, breach of contract, liquidated damage etc.;
§ Alternate Dispute Resolution
o Brief introduction to Mediation & Arbitration
