Maritime Vendor Contracts Management (16 & 23rd January 2021, 7 Contact hours) 


 


This is a very useful program for everyone involved in Shipmanagement & Operations (Technical, Purchase, Bunkers and other services procurement function) 


 


Develop a basic understanding of legal aspects behind important vendor contracts; Introduction to risk associated with poorly drafted contracts and the need to be diligent while entering into any contract; Understand the structure of different types of contracts (spares/lubes/bunkers supply /ship management contract); Understand the concept of conditions, warranties, breach of contract, liquidated damage etc.; Alternate Dispute Resolution with a brief introduction to Arbitration, Mediation, New York and Singapore Conventions.

This is a very useful program for anyone involved in any Sale & Purchase Transaction (Commercial, Shipmanagement, Legal, Finance and Operations).


A program covering key aspects of Sale forms, implied terms and working together across the functions/departments towards a successful and seamless transaction.


 



  1. Shipping Contracts Management (3rd, 4th and 6th March 2021, 14 Contact hours): MATF Refund (Hong Kong) applicable for eligible candidates. MCF Grant applied for.


The Flagship program by SkillsPlus. 


This program also offers an option to do a 21-hour combined course titled "Shipping Contracts Management & Introduction to International Arbitration", (SCM-IIA) jointly conducted by SkillsPlus and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, EAB. 


IIA successful candidates will be able to become ACIArb (Associate of Chartered Institute of Arbitrators). This joint program is an ideal step to commence journey to become a maritime arbitrator over a period of time. In any case, this 21-hour intense program gives a very effective overview of key maritime contracts and the alternate dispute resolution process.

  1. Shipping Disputes & Prevention (13th and 20th March 2021, 7 Contact hours): MATF Refund (Hong Kong) applicable for eligible candidates.  


Knowledge and understanding of past disputes and resulting case law, attention to detail and the "look before you leap" attitude can go a long way to save time, money and relationships. This program carefully looks into the Charterparties, bills of lading, liability and bunker issues.


 


Quarter 2, 2021 Programs:  


Essential Commercial Knowledge; Practical Dry Cargo Chartering, Technical Operations for Commercial Managers, Ship Finance & Investment Decision Making Process programs are scheduled for Q2' 21. However, these may be conducted earlier as public and/or in-house training programs, as per requirement of the prospective participants.

Bespoke Programs:


In 2020, we have conducted bespoke programs for Shipowning and Shipmanagement companies, some of them in February, September, November and December. These programs are designed for the Technical & Operations colleagues as well as for the top four shipboard officers who are on leave.


Topics can be adjusted as per the training needs identified by the firms as part of your ongoing appraisal system and the organisational L&D plan.
