SUEZ CANAL AUTHORITY ANNOUNCES 6% TOLL INCREASES FROM FEBRUARY 2022
Circular Ref: O(21)57
Issue Date: 09 Nov 2021
The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) recently issued a press release, see below, detailing planned increases to toll charges for vessels transiting the Suez Canal.
The planned increases amountsto a 6% rise in toll charges when compared to 2021, applicable to all vessel types except for LNG carriers and cruises.
The decision to exclude cruises from this toll increase was apparently due to the adverse impact suffered by the sector during the pandemic, and that LNG carriers tolls would remain at 2021 levels to honour previous reductions in prices granted to the sector. As such, tolls for both LNG carriers and cruises will remain unchanged from their current 2021 levels.
The SCAs advise that these increases will be effective from February 2022. The press release that the toll increases are determined by analysis from economic unit experts in the SCA planning and research department, and reflect ‘scrutiny of all variables related to the shipping market and the global economic indicators and the global trade movement’.
Members affected by this increase are kindly encouraged to contact, Georgia Spencer-Rowland , (georgia.spencer-rowland@ics-shipping.org) with any comment on this announcement, to determine any action that may be taken by the ICS Secretariat in response.
