U.S. DEVELOPMENTS – MAY 2021
Please find attached at Annex A, the monthly report from Chamber of Shipping of America (CSA).
The report covers the following:-
Advises that the Department of Homeland Security is prohibiting seafarer travel from a non-US country through the US when bound for another non-US country. This prohibition is as a result of a new interpretation of a presidential directive and CSA is working with USCG and CBP to see if there are opportunities to challenge this interpretation;
Provides a link to The North American Maritime Ministry Association (NAMMA) website on vaccine availability for foreign seafarers in US ports;
Updates on ongoing discussions between the USCG, CDC and industry regarding the potential relaxation of the current mask mandate, in particular with regard to non-passenger vessels;
Reports on the USCG policy letter concerning approval of pilot and embarkation ladders and pilot transfer arrangements; and
Provides a link to the ongoing ‘This Week in Maritime’ roundtable discussion, which details their monthly schedule.
