WIDENING OF UNITED STATES FACILITATED TRANSIT CORRIDOR IN STRAIT OF HORMUZ

Circular Ref: O(26)42

Members are invited to note that following mine clearance operations, the United States Navy (USN) has widened their facilitated transit corridor to serve both inbound and outbound traffic. ICS welcomes the introduction of dedicated inbound and outbound lanes to this programme, as they will greatly reduce the risk of collision for those who choose to participate. Updated coordinates for the corridor and mine danger area south of the TSS are provided at Annex A.

Members may recall that the USN programme is separate from the IMO evacuation plan for the Strait of Hormuz. The IMO evacuation plan remains paused following an IRGC attack on a merchant vessel on 25 June 2026. Members will be notified once the IMO programme resumes. Noting the continued fragility of the security situation in the Strait of Hormuz, companies are recommended to threat and risk assess any potential transits in accordance with the Industry Guidance on Safe Vessel Transit Through the Strait of Hormuz and BMP Maritime Security, and report to UKMTO. The industry guidance can be found at www.maritimeglobalsecurity.org.
