Hong Kong Shipowners Association – Data Privacy Statement

This Data Privacy Statement explains how we, The Hong Kong Shipowners Association, collect, use, disclose, and protect personal information in accordance with the relevant laws and regulations, including requirements of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (PDPO) (Cap. 486) of Hong Kong SAR and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) of the European Union.

We may collect various types of personal information from Companies and individuals who visit and interact with our website (www.hksoa.org). This may include but is not limited to:

· Contact information (Company name and Individual’s name, Individual’s ID Number, email address, phone number)

· Nature of Business

· Business Registration Number

· Demographic information

· Website usage information (IP address, browser details, and device information)

· Communication preferences

It is not compulsory for the Companies to provide the HKSOA with the Business Registration Certificate number, in which case other proof of “carrying out business in Hong Kong” may be requested.

We may collect and process personal information based on the following legal bases as defined by the PDPO (Cap. 486) and/or GDPR:

· Consent: We may process personal information with the individual’s explicit consent for specific purposes, which should not be unreasonably withheld.

· Legitimate Interests: We may process personal information when it is necessary for our legitimate interests and does not override the individual’s rights and freedoms.

· Legal Obligations: Processing personal information may be required to comply with legal obligations to which we are subject.

· To post the information in our Members List section of the website and publish it in our annual yearbook.

The information will be published in our website’s Membership Directory / List section and the annual yearbook. Members always have the right to request access to and correction of any information the HKSOA holds relating to the member concerned.
